As a local church leader I have served in Dalkeith Baptist Church near Edinburgh, (2 years); Cathcart Baptist Church, Glasgow, (14 years) (during which time I became President of the Baptist Union of Scotland, and a founder member of EA Scotland) and Milton Baptist Church, Weston super Mare (8 years). I have experienced the exhilaration of growth, the frustrations of opposition, and through it all the thrill of seeing God change lives. I still believe with Bill Hybels that the local church is the hope of the world.
For 7 years I was UK Director of Evangelical Alliance, leading the Church Life team, providing a provocative voice to church, encouraging whole life discipleship – turning church inside out to turn the world upside down.
As a result of this role I have wide exposure to church life in UK and internationally. In support of Christian leaders I developed a Care for a Pastors Network, posted a regular blog – leadersdigest.com, and hosted events with leadership experts such as John Maxwell and Rick Warren. I also saw the more challenging side of church life and relationships and was involved in conflict resolution when complaints were raised about member bodies! While in London I was on the leadership team of a church plant in Docklands.
I was a Board member of Tearfund for 10 years.
More recently I have retrained as a Life and Executive Coach, attaining a Professional Certificate in Coaching from Henley Business School and accreditation as a Strengths Coach through StrengthsNet. See www.re-pot.co.uk I am happy to mentor or coach by Skype if distance is an issue.
I have borrowed my life motto ‘Only the best is good enough’ from Everton Football Club and have tried to apply this to my ministry and to encourage others to follow suit!
