I first entered ‘full time’ ministry in 1991 initially as Counties evangelist for North London which I did for 12 years. Alongside this I worked part time for what became a rapidly growing independent church in the outskirts of North East London. The Lord then called me to pastoral ministry and I became Senior Pastor of a Baptist Church in Harrow. In more recent years I have led another Baptist church and had a couple of periods of itinerant ministry. I have also taken time out for further academic study. Currently have an itinerant ministry primarily aimed at supporting churches in London. I am also involved in an International Church plant local to where I live.
In most of the churches where I have been in leadership have started out as being quite challenging but we have been privileged to see the Holy Spirit at work and see growth in almost every situation. Additionally in the majority of the churches where I helped on an itinerant basis have also been struggling. So over the years I have been able to bring advice, support and encouragement to church leaders in those challenging situations.
Over the years one of the great blessings for me is that the Lord has strategically placed spiritual mentors in my path, sometimes formally and sometimes informally, who have been willing to support encourage, ask probing questions, pray for and with me (and my family too). They’ve not interfered or told me what to do. I’ve realised that this has rubbed off on me and that increasingly as I have grown in ministry mentoring has become a larger priority. When I took on the pastorate in Harrow I was soon joined by two other pastors and an inexperienced team of leaders. I quickly introduced ‘pastoral mentoring’ as a means of developing all the senior church leaders. What a joy to see them grow and develop into their roles, find and nurture their spiritual gifts and in turn lead and support others.
The areas I would be particularly strong in helping anyone seeking a mentor would be in the areas of leadership, especially missional leadership, church growth, vision, developing and building teams, strategy, structure, handling change and taking new initiatives.
Although I actually live in Surrey it is only a couple of miles outside of Greater London and just a mile from the M25.
