Having retired from Tearfund in 2019 I have used my experience in Christian relief and development work over 15 years to mentor and coach others to fulfil their calling. It’s personally rewarding to see people overcome obstacles, develop their career or improve their capacities. I’m motivated by the realization that life, as a journey in faith, calls for accompaniment, where someone can benefit from my experience, which, through coaching, I have found to be mutually encouraging, affirming and enabling.
Having been trained as a coach by 3D Coaching at Tearfund in 2016 I have coached more than 50 people in many aspects of personal development through one-off discussions, a series of meet-ups or occasional on-going meetings.
Presently, I work two days each week as a consultant within the Christian and Europewide relief and development network EU-CORD where I have mentored many seeking to develop their capacities.
I am also able to draw on my professional life before Tearfund where, working as a project manager, I worked in the finance sector in London and the south-east. I became familiar with working in highly demanding roles with challenging objectives and expectations where stress became a constant companion stretching my faith. It was in these roles that the value of coaching became clear to me to fill the need everyone of us has to have the accompaniment of a trusted friend, guide and coach.
Over the past five years I have been coaching people in their 20’s and 30’s in the Christian relief and development sector. My work in this area is through people I have come into contact with through working with Tearfund and the EU-CORD network or church ministry.
My church involvement over 48 years includes preaching, house group and youth group leadership, appointment as a church warden, standing committee membership having been elected to the church PCC. These days I’m less hands on in church leadership but give friendship, guidance, support and much encouragement where ever it’s welcome.
